DAY 1: THE SACRED SERRATED MOUNTAIN
Pick up the group at Barcelona or at its airport. It will take about three hours to our destination. On the way we will stop for a few minutes along the road to view Montserrat, the sacred mountain of Catalonia, to admire its characteristic monoliths. The Montserrat mountain range is located to the east of the Llobregat river. Its characteristics and spectacular formations make it unique. Its highest point is the summit of Sant Jeroni, at 1,236.4 m. Throughout the millennia, the isostatic and tectonic movements, climate changes and erosion have ended up shaping an abrupt relief, with large walls and rounded blocks of pink conglomerate. Inside it, the erosion of karstic type has created caves and torrents. It was declared a Natural Park in 1987 to guarantee its conservation. Overnight at the Monastery of Les Avellanes (H***).
DAY 2: LA NOGUERA
In the morning we will visit the archaeological site of La Roca dels Bous, in Sant Llorenç de Montgai. 50,000 years ago. Neanderthal groups regularly made a stop on their way on one of the natural paths between the first foothills of the Pyrenees and the plain of the Segrià region, at Cinglera de la Cascalda. The particular geological processes that occur in this cliff have made it possible to preserve many traces of these visits by Neanderthals. The set of these findings is what we now know as the archaeological site of La Roca dels Bous. We will begin the visit at the Espai Orígens heritage interpretation centre of Camarasa. At noon we will enjoy a picnic on the shores of the lake Sant Llorenç de Montgai.
In the afternoon we will jump back into time to the 10th century and visit the Andalusian archaeological park of the Plà d’Almatà. It is the largest site of the Andalusian period that is conserved in Catalonia and one of the main sites of the ancient Al-Andalus, the country that the Arabs founded on the Iberian peninsula between the 8th and 15th centuries. The Pla d’Almatà was the birthplace of Madina Balaguer and one of the main neighborhoods of this city. The neighbourhood is configured in a perfectly organized urban area, with residential, industrial, worship areas and cemeteries. The museum in the Archaeological Park corresponds to a residential area, in which you can visit four houses and two sections of streets. Overnight at the Terradets Hotel (H***) in Cellers.
DAY 3: THE NORTH OF MONTSEC
In the morning we will do an excursion to the site of Sant Martí de les Tombetes. This site exhibits the place where a little Christian community lived between the 5th and 9th centuries. We will have a picnic lunch and we will visit the 10th century castle and the 11th century church of Sant Feliu. Our last visit this day will be in the monumental complex of Mur. This was the residence of Ramon
IV, a Count in the 11th century. Overnight at the Terradets hotel (H***).
DAY 4: LA CONCA DELLÀ. WAR MEMORY SPACES
We will begin the day visiting the republican front of La Posa (Isona). This site presents one of the bestpreserved Archeology sites in the Pallars Jussà. The site of Republican military structures that are preserved, allow us to cross the stage in which the Republican and Francoist armies fought between the spring of 1938 and January 1939. An evocative experience that brings us closer to the strenuous experience of those days: the fear of the attacks by the enemy, the toughness of the front, the long hours of calm …
At noon we will enjoy a picnic next to the hermitage of La Posa. In the afternoon, we will visit the Sauvella winery, in the town of Orcau, where we will taste its signature wines. Overnight at Senterada, Casa Leonardo.
DAY 5: TALARN AND SALÀS. WITHIN THE WALLS
We will relax by enjoying the urban network of two of the medieval villages of Pallars. In the morning we will walk through the streets of the old town of Talarn. This village is set in a gentle slope hill, with a cliff in the eastern part, which leads to the right bank of the Noguera Pallaresa river. It was due to this special situation that the primitive castle of de Counts of Pallars was built here. The town still shows the old fortified structure, in which there was the castle at the highest point, at the foot of the slope of the east sector, and continued with radial streets until the wall still visible by some towers or walls in the street of El Raval and in the beginning of Carrer del Mig. We will see its urban development and understand the radial growth until reaching the current perimeter walled. We will stop and picnic.
In the afternoon we will move to Salàs del Pallars, where we will analyze a model of urban closet, Medieval, but different from the previous one. Finally, we will visit the Salas Shops-Museum. Overnight at Casa Leonardo.
DAY 6: MONASTERY OF GERRI DE LA SAL
We will approach the Pallars Sobirà to carry out the guided tour to which was the powerful monastery of Gerri de la Sal and which has remained the magnificent collegiate church of the Romanesque style. The origins of the monastery are probably found in a church built during the Visigoths and destroyed by the Saracens. It was founded on June 20, 807 by the presbyter Espanell. From the monastic set, the church is the only one that is preserved since the rest are only ruins.
The temple was built during the 12th century, it has a basilica floor of three naves, with no transept and with three semicircular apses, the sides open directly to the nave and the central, much wider, is preceded by a large presbytery in a level lower than the nave. The salt mines of the town, which began to be exploited in the Middle Ages, made the monastery enjoy an exceptional economic solvency. After lunch we will start the trip back to Barcelona.

"I have been on a couple of excursions with Pyrenees Trips in Catalonia and would like to express my appreciation to the guide who was very professional, showing great patience and in-depth knowledge of the region (geologically, historically and culturally). Our group continually relied on his invaluable expertise in order to make for an extremely enjoyable excursion. "
"For those who like the History of the earth and enjoy the landscape and understand it, it is essential to have a good guide that interprets the rocks and the footsteps of evolution. Without guidance, it can hardly be understood"
